. . . for the head of a country where there is endemic corruption amongst politicians, the staggering wealth of the Royal Family places a massive reality disconnect between them and the conditions faced by the people, where democracy barely deserves the name, where women are still struggling to achieve equal rights and the whole murky "lineage" of Royals is derived from centuries of murder, intrigue and ugly ambition.
You'd think the Saudis would steer well clear of the House of Windsor, wouldn't you?
Incidentally, King Abdullah's Groucho Marx impersonation is rubbish.
In other news, postman have solved the "mystery" of delivering a letter vaguely addressed to "a briliant violinist". Now this conundrum is solved, perhaps they will make the Holmesian leap of delivering post with full address and postcode to my house, and manage to get the letters through the door before 4 pm?
I'm also amused to see the latest adverts for the Post Office on telly. I notice that they chose not to film in the Camden branch and used a set instead. A missed opportunity, I'm sure.

Talking about massive disconnects - did you hear about that scumbag from Sierra Leone who has molested, assaulted and stolen for much of his young life, but has won an appeal against deportation because he is "a home grown criminal" - having lived here since he was 6 and already been refused citizenship.
Sending him back might well mean his human rights are less assiduously respected. But I wonder if the judge who allowed the appeal against deportation would have been quite so generous if he lived in Peckham, rather than some ivory tower where he never has to mix with us common people and put up with the minor inconvenience of living cheek by jowl with convicted sex attackers.
