Not a good weekend for flying things. On Saturday, a hurricane crashes nearby at the Shoreham Air Show during their Battle of Britain flight.

The formation, consisting of two German and three Allied vintage aircraft were performing a mock battle for the crowds when the hurricane's engine appeared to go silent and it failed to pull out of a dive. A rising smoke cloud from a field near the airport gave a stark reminder of what happened to all too many pilots during that period.

With a sad but determined attitude however, they carried on flying the next day, and I was out doing the gardening accompanied by the drone of twin-egined bombers as they circled.

Elsewhere, as you all probably know, there were crashes in Thailand and a helicopter crash that killed Colin McCrae and his son.

I have checked that a friend of mine in Thailand is OK, but I'm somewaht concerned about Juzzzy as he hasn't posted since the crash.

Srange that despite the newsline-grabbing nature of air crashes, it still remains safer than road travel. You wonder how much of the news would be taken up with reporting if we had equal coverage or road deaths. These days they seem only newsworthy if a celebrity of multiple casualties are involved.
